Social media has become a big part of the lives of millions of people all over the world. Let’s face it – it is a powerful tool that could help your business make it. The question is no longer “Should I use social media for my brand?” It’s now “How can I make social media work for my business?” Here are some questions you should clearly answer before diving in to the social media ocean.

What do I want to achieve?

Do you want to educate people about your product or service? Do you want to interact with your market more? Do you want to increase your brand exposure? These and more questions should be answered before starting your social media campaign. These will help you narrow down the next steps of action you have to take.

What should I say?

The attention span of your social media audience is very fleeting. That is why you should always be sure that your content is updated, engaging and useful. You have to think of your company’s unique selling proposition and work on that. You have to capture your market’s attention by continuously supplying them with information that is relevant and interesting.

Who should I talk to?

Although your content may be available for the whole wide world to see, you have to keep your target focused. It is better to capture 100 people who are directly in your targeted demographic rather than talking to 1,000 people who do not care or have any use for your product or service. Try to check who are already following your competition. You might want to target them and make them notice you – eventually make them choose you over your rival companies.

What type of social media should I use?

Is your target market active on Twitter? Or do they spend more time on Facebook? You have to research on which social media platforms your markets spend most of their time. Make sure that you are present on all types. If it means that you have to share your content on 5 or more platforms just so you can reach most, if not all your audience, do it.

How should I handle social media emergencies?

You cannot please everyone. Surely there will be some occasions wherein a “non-believer” of your brand will say something negative about you on the Internet. These unfavorable comments, violent reactions and complaints cannot be avoided. The important thing to remember is that you should address them – never avoid them. Keep your cool and be truthful in answering them.
