Simplifying Mobile Ad Revenue

Before I talk about mobile ad revenue and how to simplify its terms I want to share this with you.

Google/Ipsos (US consumer Mobile Movement survey April 2011) gave their take on why advertisers need to have a mobile friendly site. Here’s what they discovered:

  • Of people who react to seeing a mobile ad: 42 percent click on the mobile ad; 35 percent visit the advertiser’s site; 32 percent search for more information on their phone; 49 percent make a purchase and 27 percent call the business.
  • 71 percent of Smartphone users that see TV press or online ad; do a mobile search for more information.

And that’s the key in a nutshell. Those 71 percent of Smartphone users are your potential customers.

And I know what you may be thinking; that you need to spend a lot of money on mobile advertising to see results.

You don’t always need to have ads running on third party websites to attract business. Your first step should really be to actually have a site that is mobile friendly to begin with.

Now I want you to think of your online website as your main base. All of your information is there with your services and or products displayed with information on how to buy. That’s fantastic and if you have a well optimised website you’re going to see traffic coming to your site daily.

If you’re not seeing results yet, or your site is relatively new you may not see hoards of visitors. That’s fine too, because with a mobile-ready site you have a chance to gain more traffic via the mobile web. I’m sure you like that sound of that.

But there is a big elephant in the room. It’s so big it simply cannot be ignored.

One of the issues with regular websites is that they are not optimized for mobile web surfers.

Have you ever tried to view a non-optimized website on your mobile phone? Do you know the difference?

Generally you’ll have to scroll back and forth to read the information and that is time consuming.

You have to think about what I mentioned about people wanting information fast. They simply don’t want to waste time waiting for a website to load up on their mobile and then have to scroll back and forth to read information.

If you’re website is made in Flash that too is a huge issue for people trying to get to your site via an iPhone, since iPhones do not support Flash. Let’s face it; a lot of people have iPhones.

What key information do you have on your website right now?

I’d imagine that you have things like:

  • Who you are
  • What you do
  • List of services or products
  • Contact information

You may also have a map of how to find your business and possibly a shopping cart so people can purchase from you.

The misconception many people have is that they can’t possibly fit all their information on a mobile site. Wrong! Let me show you.
